The Tortilla Curtain by T. Coraghessan Boyle (fiction)
Topanga Canyon is home to two couples on a collision course. Los Angeles liberals Delaney and Kyra Mossbacher lead an ordered sushi-and-recycling existence in a newly gated hilltop community: he a sensitive nature writer, she an obsessive realtor. Mexican illegals Cándido and América Rincón desperately cling to their vision of the American Dream as they fight off starvation in a makeshift camp deep in the ravine. And from the moment a freak accident brings Cándido and Delaney into intimate contact, these four and their opposing worlds gradually intersect in what becomes a tragicomedy of error and misunderstanding.

CAROL’S ANNUAL JULY GARDEN PARTY: Saturday, July 2nd, 10:00AM
At the home of a member
Come join this Wanderers casual gathering for conversation and good food. Her garden has lots of shade; however, if you are sun-sensitive wear a hat. Menu is potluck – so bring one of your favorite dishes. Later responses may be asked to help “round out” the offerings. Come prepared to share one good thing that came out of the covid lockdown – no “Negative Nellies” – we need more positivity in our lives! I will have my preserves available for anyone who wants to purchase. If it rains we’ll reschedule.
