The Woman Next Door by Yewande Omotoso
Hortensia and Marion are neighbors. One’s black, the other white. Both are successful women with impressive careers. Both have recently been widowed, and are living with questions, disappointments, and secrets that have brought them shame. And each has something that the woman next door deeply desires. Sworn enemies, the two share a hedge and a deliberate hostility. But, one day, an unexpected event forces them together. As the physical barriers between them collapse, their bickering gradually softens into conversation, and the two discover common ground. But are these sparks of connection enough to ignite a friendship, or is it too late to expect these women to change.
Beverages at happy hour prices are available until 7:00PM. Feel free to bring food or snacks up from the store. Please come even if you haven’t read the book.

Winteringby Peter Geye
Winner of the MN Book Award, this highly acclaimed novelist gives us a love story that spans sixty years, generations’ worth of feuds, and secrets withheld and revealed. The two principal stories at play are bound together when the elderly, demented Harry Eide escapes his sickbed and vanishes into the northernmost wilderness surrounding Gunflint, Minnesota—instantly changing many lives forever. He’d done this before, thirty years earlier in 1963, fleeing a crumbling marriage and bringing along his eighteen-year-old son, pitching this audacious, potentially fatal scheme—winter already coming on.
LIMITED TO 20 PARTICIPANTS—WITH A WAITING LIST IN CASE OF CANCELLATIONS.
RSVP by Saturday, December 15thto AnneS@TheWanderersMSP.org

The Last Mileby David Baldacci
Melvin Mars awaits his fate on Death Row. He was one of America’s most promising football stars until at age twenty, he was convicted of the murder of his parents, just as he was about to begin a very lucrative contract with the NFL. When Amos Decker, newly appointed special agent with the FBI, hears that Melvin was saved in the final seconds before his execution because someone confessed to the killings, he persuades his boss to allow him to carry out an investigation into the Mars murders.
