 ACTIVITIES

GARDEN TOUR: Friday & Saturday, August 4th-5th—New Ulm

There are still a couple spots left for the New Ulm trip August 4th and 5th, 2017.  If you are interested please email me at BarbaraD@TheWanderersMSP.org and I will also send you a copy of the itinerary.  We think it will be a really fun time and hope you will join us. We’ve booked an AirBnB (an entire house with no food provided).  There are 8 beds (which they say could accommodate up to 12 people.  We would only allow more then 8 if someone is willing to share a bed.).  The number of people going will determine the final cost per person for the night – if we have 8 people the cost would be $70 plus tax. We need a $50.00 deposit ASAP if you are planning to attend.

Book:  Accidental Empress:  A Novel by Allison Pataki

The year is 1853, and the Habsburgs are Europe’s most powerful ruling family. With his empire stretching from Austria to Russia, from Germany to Italy, Emperor Franz Joseph is young, rich, and ready to marry. Fifteen-year-old Elisabeth (“Sisi”), Duchess of Bavaria, travels to the Habsburg Court with her older sister, who is betrothed to the young emperor.

FYI – forward the books that you think we should to Anne by August 11.

Meet us in the quiet, back corner at the big round table.  Great Happy Hour food and drink options, plus superb regular menu.  We discuss first and eat later.  Please join us even if you haven’t read the book.

Richfield American Legion, 6501 Portland Ave., Richfield   612-866-3647

This place is a hoot! Meet us for an unforgettable evening of food, cheap drinks and entertainment: Happy Hour (5-6PM), Dinner and the Meat Raffle (5-7PM) and Music (5-?PM). Show up anytime between 5-7PM to partake in any or all of the above (no membership or fees required).

The meat raffle: a quintessential Minnesotan bar tradition that plays out every night of the week in one working-class neighborhood’s watering hole or another. Though its origins are unknown, its existence is as homegrown as tater tot hot dish. Once only found in rural areas, they are now happening all over the metro area, from dive bars to hipster haunts. Buy a ticket for a dollar — the proceeds go to charity — and get a chance to win a shrink-wrapped package of raw, pink flesh. Dinner menu at: http://www.mnlegion435.org/files/BAR_MENU_03_02_15.jpg

COMING UP

BOOKS & BOOZE:  Tuesday, October 24, 3:45PM—Macy’s Lakeshore Grill

Southdale Center Lower Level

Book: The Residence by Kate Anderson Brower

While journalist Brower moves by theme in presenting the memories of select long-running staff at the White House—“Controlled Chaos,” “Discretion,” “Extraordinary Demands,” “Dark Days,” etc.—there is an irresistible, charmingly pell-mell quality to the arrangement of these dashy stories. The author has managed to track down numerous former staffers that share delicious stories.

Meet us in the quiet, back corner at the big round table.  Great Happy Hour food and drink options, plus superb regular menu.  We discuss first and eat later.  Please join us even if you haven’t read the book.

RSVP by Friday, October 20th to AnneS@TheWanderersMSP.org
