STAYCATION POTLUCK BRUNCH: Saturday, July 2nd, 10:00AM— at the home of a member

Not headed “up north” or out of town for the 4th of July holiday? Join us for a casual, outdoor gathering in Carol’s yard/garden. Choose a protein, salad, fruit, cheese, pastry, or juices, etc. to share. FYI we’ll have to reschedule if it rains.

EXPLORERS: Saturday, July 9th, 10:15AM Departure—Gangster & Historic Cave Tour

215 Wabasha St S, Saint Paul, MN 55107

The 11:00AM St. Paul Cave tour is a 45 minute walking tour. The cost is $6.00. Come hear the legends of these sandstone caves—mobster massacres and ghostly lore in the most unique setting from Chicago to San Francisco. We’ll explore the original mined caves and see the finished ones (once a romantic night club called The Castle Royal).  If there’s sufficient interest, we will also take the 2-hour Gangster bus tour at noon. The cost is $24.00.  We’ll visit the sites of nightclubs, kidnappings and gun battles associated with 1930’s era gangsters like John Dillinger, Ma Barker and Babyface Nelson.  Optional lunch to follow at Joseph’s Grill,140 South Wabasha, Saint Paul, josephsgrill.com.

A car pool will leave south Mpls. at 10:15AM. Please indicate if you plan to car pool and are willing to drive.  Or, meet us at the caves at 10:45.

Directions to Caves: Hwy.62E to Hwy. 55E to Hwy 5E toward St Paul. Take Edgcumbe Rd exit. Keep right toward Shepard Rd/River Blvd. (If you reach Edgcumbe Rd you’ve gone too far. Keep right at the fork in the ramp. (If you reach Gannon Rd you’ve gone too far). Merge onto Mississippi River Blvd and take 1st left onto Shepard Rd. Turn left onto Eagle Pkwy. (just past Walnut Ave). If you reach Spring St you’ve gone too far.  Take the 1st right onto Exchange St. Turn slight left onto Kellogg Blvd W. (just past Washington St ) Take the 1st right onto Wabasha St. (just past St. Peter St.) 215 WABASHA ST S is on the right.

To Joseph’s Grill: Wabasha St. norh ttoward Plato Blvd/Hwy 40. Joseph’s Grill (140 Wabasha) is on the right. (if you reach Water St. W you’ve gone too far).
